Frequently Asked Questions About PC Ultima

1. What is PC Ultima made of?
Its main ingredients are high-density polyurethane (plastic) and wood flour (very fine sawdust). It is heated and compacted in a machine called an Extruder and molded into the boards. UV protectants, special resin to control water absorption, mold inhibitors, and coupling and bonding agents are some of the other ingredients included in our boards.

2. Can PC Ultima be painted of stained?
The boards already come in 3 colors-redwood, grey, and cedar. Painting and staining are not required. It can be painted or stained, however, remember that it will require annual maintenance, and that the surfaces may lose some of their slip resistance.

3. Will PC Ultima fade over time?
PC Ultima decking is highly fade resistant and will exhibit minimal weathering over a period of years.

4. Why doesn’t PC Ultima fade like other composites?
PC Ultima uses only virgin materials, therefore controlling precisely the processing of our decking. We use special UV protectants in our boards as well as other agents that prevent fading.

5. Why doesn’t PC Ultima decking vary slightly in color between boards as other composite decking does?
Again, PC Ultima uses only virgin materials, therefore controlling precisely the processing of our decking. Our quality control procedures ensure that our boards all match beautifully.

6. What tools are required to install PC Ultima?
Standard woodworking tools can be used. You do not need any special tools in order to install PC Ultima.

7. In what lengths, styles and colors are PC Ultima deck boards available?
10’, 12’ and 16’ are our normal in-stock lengths. However, special orders may be able to be produced depending on quantity ordered and plant production availability.

Colors currently available are redwood, cedar and grey. Additional colors may be ordered depending on quantity ordered and plant production availability.

PC Ultima comes in one style with two looks so you can decide when you get home which side you prefer for your deck. The embossed side looks like natural wood grain while the milled side has a smoother finish. You purchase one board but get two different looks!

8. How do I clean PC Ultima?

9. Does PC Ultima cost more than wood to maintain?
PC Ultima may cost more than your traditional wood deck initially, however, will save you money over the life of your deck due to reduced maintenance expenses. Click here for a cost comparison.

10. Why is PC Ultima a better alternative to lumber?
PC Ultima is guaranteed against splitting, cracking, warping, rotting and decay. The boards contain no knots and are warrantied against termites as well. It is easy to maintain and requires no painting or annual sealing. You have more time to enjoy your deck!

11. Slipping and Splinters?
PC Ultima will not splinter and meets the American Disabilities Act for Slip Resistance.

12. What joist spans should be used when installing PC Ultima deck boards?

13. Should allowances be made for expansion and contraction of PC Ultima deck boards?
Yes, depending on the temperature range, the boards need to be spaced correctly to allow for the expansion and contraction. Click here for more information.

14. How can I cover the exposed ends of the PC Ultima deck boards?
We recommend using the “picture frame” effect by running a board perpendicular around the edges of your deck. You can also use the boards as fascia pieces around the ends of your deck and to cover rim joist and stair stringers.
